When in Oakland, head to MOCO and pick up a copy of “Chasing Windmills”:  371 17th Street, Oakland, CA 91612.

The Red Herring are making their first foray upstream and it’s sure to be a sexy one! We’re joining The Open Road tour again as live house band this Friday with standup comedian Tony Bartalone, whom we met via The Rad News Sketch Show at Bang Theatre. This Friday the 13th MOCO Presents The Open Road Show at 371 17th St., Oakland, California 9461. Community folks start the night with an open mic at 7 p.m.  Then at 8 p.m. you’ll see what happens when North meets South! And a special appearance by Sad Banana as the night’s host! $5 donation, no one turned away for lack of funds.

Tony is producing this show as part of a cross country documentary on open mic comedy entitled “The Open Road.”  He’s reached over 1K on his goal of 5K thanks to everyone’s support on Kickstarter and was able to promote his fundraising efforts on stage during last week’s 4th of July event at The Downtown Independent with Dave Foley and Maria Bamford, who has been a strong supporter of Tony’s project. You too can be a supporter of The Open Road and check out The Red Herring’s parody of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song produced by Alejandro Spreanza here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/721637620/the-open-road. The Kickstarter video features endorsements by Maria Bamford among others. You may even recognize one of the hobos in the opening sequence! Songs from Chasing Windmills will appear in Tony’s documentary which will be screened in film festivals across the country.

Big Dave here.  I want to give a big shout out to custom harmonica mic builder Greg Heumann at BlowsMeAway Productions for being a real gentleman!  I was missing a grill screw for the Dirty Bullet for a while now, and I broke down and asked Greg where I could find some (those little suckers are tough to find in this town).  To my surprise, he sent me two.  Thank you, Greg! You are friend to Herring everywhere!

Either Brooke can’t tell a champagne magnum from a Fender Mustang, or we’re celebrating “I Am The Night” being on the radio Wednesday at WEFT FM in Champaign, Il.  Thanks, guys!  We toasted to you… and toasted and toasted…

Albert II

Today is the 51st anniversary of the first human to go into space.  We here at The Red Herring would like to commend the well meaning but late coming human race for attempting the daring feat of space exploration… long after Albert II, the first monkey to go into space.  Read his story above, and enjoy our musical tribute to this brave primate pioneer.
